CLARIN, Misamis Occidental — A new sports and events facility capable of accommodating nearly 6,000 people is set to rise in Clarin, Misamis Occidental following the groundbreaking of the Asenso Cultural and Sports Dome.

The locally funded project of the Municipality of Clarin is envisioned as a venue for major community, cultural and sporting events, expanding the municipality’s capacity to host larger gatherings and competitions.

The facility will have a total floor area of approximately 3,565 square meters, with bleachers designed to accommodate around 3,000 spectators and a court area that can accommodate more than 2,400 people.

Beyond community activities, concerts and conventions, the dome is designed to meet standards set by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), allowing it to host national-level basketball competitions and other sporting events.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal led the ceremonial groundbreaking, including the shoveling of soil and lowering of the project capsule.

He was joined by Clarin Mayor Riza Oaminal Delos-Santos, Vice Mayor Emeterio “Jojo” Roa, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, barangay officials and members of the project’s technical team.

Delos-Santos said the project is intended to provide Clarin and surrounding communities with a facility capable of accommodating events that previously required venues outside the municipality.

Oaminal, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of investing in facilities that can support the province’s growing calendar of regional, national and international events.

Misamis Occidental has increasingly hosted major gatherings in recent years, bringing visitors and participants into the province and contributing to the growth of its tourism sector.

The development of facilities such as the Asenso Cultural and Sports Dome is expected to complement these efforts by providing additional venues for sporting competitions, cultural activities, conventions and other large-scale events.

The project also reflects the growing role of local governments in developing infrastructure that can support both community needs and the province’s broader tourism and sports ambitions.

The initiative has received support from the province’s congressional leaders, including First District Representative Jason P. Almonte, Second District Representative Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal and Asenso Pinoy Party-list Representative Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr.

Once completed, the dome is expected to give Clarin a venue capable of accommodating larger events and provide athletes, organizers and visitors with another facility within Misamis Occidental for sports and other major gatherings.

With the province continuing to attract events and visitors, local officials see the project as another step toward strengthening Misamis Occidental’s capacity to host activities while creating opportunities for sports, tourism and local economic development.
